Google Pixel 9a 5K renders and 360-degree video leak reveal overhauled design and key specs

After the recent release of Google Pixel 9, the focus now shifts to the Google Pixel 9a, the mid-range version of which is supposed to arrive soon. Recent leaks from Android Headlines have managed to give a first glimpse into the design and features of the device.

Based on CAD sources, renders, and live shots have surfaced what the mid-range model might look like. Though it is still months away from the expected 2025 release, these details bring out an even clearer picture of what Google’s next mid-tier smartphone will actually look like.

Refined yet familiar Pixel 9a design

The leaked images of the Google Pixel 9a renders have brought some differences with the flagship Pixel 9. Here, one of the most prominent design changes has been seen regarding the rear camera bar, which was very noticeable in recent Pixel models. There, it appears that the Pixel 9a has instead chosen the simpler back design. As can be seen, the flat side rails design also shows its difference when seen in comparison with the Pixel 9 side rails, which are just a slight curve on the sides.

Performance with Tensor G4 and Exynos modem

The Google Pixel 9a will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 processor. However, it will rely on the Exynos Modem 5300, not using the Exynos Modem 5400 of the Pixel 9 that supports 5G 3GPP Rel. 17 and is 10% more efficient. The Exynos Modem 5300 was used by the Google Pixel 8 series. Overall, despite these improvements, the Google Pixel 9a should still deliver decent 5G connectivity for daily use.

Display, RAM, and storage

The Google Pixel 9a would feature the same 6.1-inch display as the previous model. Thus, there would be a compact choice in the Google lineup for the users. Furthermore, the phone will probably carry 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Besides that, it should hopefully run on Android 15 and, if so, would enjoy seven years of software updates.

Cost-reduction strategies: IPoP technology

For the manufacturing side, Google seems to be taking a very cost-conscious approach. The Google Pixel 9a would reportedly use Samsung’s Integrated Package on Package (IPoP) technology for the Tensor G4 SoC. For your reference, the Pixel 9 uses Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging (FOPLP). Such technology has been used since the Pixel 7a to keep mass production costs low while maintaining high performance.

Google Pixel 9a color options and launch timeline

The Google Pixel 9a is rumored to be available in four colors, one of which will be silver. Even though numerous details have emerged on the launch. But, there is still no official date set and instead waits to take place sometime next year in 2025. More details should come to light closer to its official release date.
