HUAWEI is gearing up for a major launch event in China on September 10, and the expectations within the tech world are certainly pretty high. Though the company hasn’t revealed much, sources close to the matter said that HUAWEI would show off its innovative tri-fold smartphone at the event. Additionally, the event could bring new HarmonyOS smart driving products, further expanding Huawei’s portfolio.
Event details and teasers
Richard Yu, chief executive of HUAWEI’s Consumer Business Division, has confirmed the event via Weibo: “It is coming on September 10 at 2:30 pm CST.” Separately, a promotional poster hints it may finally come into view as a showstopper in a tri-fold smartphone.
HUAWEI tri-fold phone design overview
HUAWEI’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone is said to have a different folding mechanism that will let the large inner screen of the device offer three folds for multiple display experiences. Rumor has it that it may arrive in a tablet-like form factor with a 10-inch inner screen, housing two inward screens and one outward screen, joined together by a dual-hinge system. The phone could feature the Kirin 9 series chipset and a circular camera module.

New HarmonyOS smart driving products
In addition to tri-fold phone, HUAWEI plans to showcase a number of new smart driving products, possibly the Luxeed R7 and the newest smart car model. Eventually, these additions could strengthen Huawei’s growing presence in the automotive technology market by offering advanced features and seamless integration with other HarmonyOS devices.
Competition with Apple in the foldable market
The timing of HUAWEI’s event places it very close to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series event scheduled for September 9. Apple is reportedly developing foldable technologies for iPhones, too, including a clamshell-like device that could arrive in early 2026, so HUAWEI’s imminent arrival of a tri-fold smartphone could represent an earlier entry into this emerging market.
