OnePlus has announced the debut of the upcoming Ace 5 series smartphones in China on December 12. The OnePlus Ace 5 series will include two models: OnePlus Ace 5 and the OnePlus 5 Pro. These devices are equipped with latest technology. Including dual Snapdragon processors, the Pro model will include the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, while the standard model will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
OnePlus Ace 5 specifications (expected)
According to rumors, the OnePlus Ace 5 will have a 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X2 8T LTPO flat screen. The flat screen is supposed to provide an immersive viewing experience with enhanced color accuracy and smooth display. The device will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to cater to various user needs including gaming, productivity, and it will deliver on it.
The camera system is expected to include a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. The new Ace lineup sports a layout similar to its predecessor. Additionally, the device is going to have an alert slider, which is a common feature of OnePlus devices. Furthermore, a 6500mAh battery with 100W fast charging, but expected to use an optical fingerprint scanner instead of the ultrasonic one found on the OnePlus 13.
OnePlus Ace 5 Pro: A potential upgrade
Recent teaser of the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro suggest that it will run on Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, known for its high-performance capabilities. Additionally, speculations hint at the inclusion of a telephoto camera, potentially appealing to photography enthusiasts. Reports also mention a sizable battery capacity of either 6200mAh or 6300mAh for prolonged usage.

Louis Jie, Head of OnePlus China, shared some interesting gaming performance data for the OnePlus Ace 5. The test ran the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC under extreme image quality settings at 120fps for an hour. The Ace 5 Pro stood up to the competition by:
- Average frame rate: 120.4 fps
- Power consumption: 3.57W
- Maximum temperature: 40.3 °C
For comparison, the competition’s Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered device produced a slightly lower frame rate of 120.2 fps with a power usage of 3.27W and a temperature of 40 °C, while its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered competitor followed with an average of 119.8 fps at 4.56 Watt. The hottest temperature was 42.1 °C after consumption. These metrics demonstrate OnePlus’ commitment to improving cooling and gaming performance.
Global availability and launch timeline
The OnePlus Ace 5 is likely to launch internationally under the name OnePlus 13R, which might arrive together with the OnePlus 13 in January 2024. This international launch follows the brand’s pattern for its recent releases. The Pro variant is expected to stay in the Chinese market.
This global rollout is in line with the brand’s strategy for recent launches. The Pro model, however, will most likely be exclusive to the Chinese market.
