OnePlus is on the brink of making an entry in the foldable phone market, with its alleged OnePlus Open 2, the next version of its predecessor. According to Smartprix initial renders, there is something in store for the users in terms of design and several other great improvements. Here’s the more interesting look at the exciting new device.
Familiar yet refined design
Based on reports, the OnePlus Open 2 still boasts the traditional design feature of its predecessor: the big round camera module on the back, but serious changes make this one shine. The three rear cameras are now housed in the top half of the circle, with the Hasselblad logo adorning the bottom.
There’s another subtle yet effective detail that is the curved edges of the rear, giving up the flat design that originally defined the Open for an ergonomic feel. The Open 2 unfolds larger and thinner than its predecessor with folded thickness under 10mm placing it among the thinnest foldable smartphones.
Though these renders are an early-stage prototype, the final design may see a slight change before the release of the foldable phone.
OnePlus Open 2 would see some upgraded specifications
Display enhancements and power-packed performance
According to reports, one of the best upgrades here is that the OnePlus Open 2 features an updated display. The main screen grows to 8-inch with a 120Hz, 2K LTPO panel for ultra-smooth and vibrant viewing experiences. The cover display was also upgraded and measures now at 6.4-inch compared to the original model at 6.31-inch.
Under the hood, the new OnePlus Open 2 will have the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. Furthermore, it will offer 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of native storage, this device ensures seamless multitasking and storage. Other configuration options may also be found according to the needs of specific users.

Camera and battery improvements
The triple camera setup at the back of Open 2 comprises three 50MP sensors, so photography is definitely going to be exceptional. At the front, the 32MP and 20MP selfie cameras remain from its predecessor, making sure all your shots are sharp and detailed.
Battery life gets a serious bump, with the Open 2 coming in at 5,900mAh versus the original’s 4,800mAh. Charging speeds have also been upgraded to 80W wired and add 50W wireless charging for the first time on a OnePlus foldable.
Built to last, Software and Availability
One major area where the Open 2 will improve is its predecessor’s durability is with IPX8 water resistance certification-while the original only achieved IPX4 certification. As a result, there will be more comfort to hand it over to end users for accidental splashing or immersion.
The device will come with OxygenOS 15, built on Android 15. It will offer a clean, fast, and intuitive user interface. Early reports indicate that the launch is scheduled for China in early 2025, and then the device will be available globally in the first quarter of the year. At least two color options, including the classic black, are expected.
As the launch date is near, the anticipation has grown. With these features, the OnePlus Open 2 could redefine what a foldable smartphone should be for its users.
