Spotify raises Premium subscription prices in multiple regions globally

Spotify has officially announced that it will increase the price of its Premium subscription services in several markets globally. The price increase will be applicable to customers in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific.

The streaming platform began mailing the impacted subscribers this week with an overview of the changes to the plan for billing that will take effect next month. Notably, the updated prices are currently visible to new subscribers at spotify.com/premium.

Spotify cites continued innovation as reason for price increase

In a statement, Spotify expressed that it is “committed to delivering a world-class, personalized experience to every user.” The company further added that frequent price changes are unavoidable in order to be able to invest in innovation in its features and products.

“To keep innovating on product experiences and services and delivering the best experience to users, we occasionally make price adjustments,” Spotify clarified in its official press release.

The company clarified that affected users will be notified via email, with individualized information about their new pricing. A sample email shared by some users shows an increase from €10.99 to €11.99 per month in an unspecified European country. However, the actual price changes vary by market.

    United States market unaffected

Spotify ensured that the price raise is not universal across all markets. For example, the United States will not feel any change in price at this time. Premium accounts in the United States still cost $11.99 for one user per month.

The action follows Spotify’s previous price hikes in 2023 and 2024 as part of wider adjustments to sustain growth while attempting to keep pace with increasing content and operating costs.

    What subscribers should expect

Over the next few weeks, current subscribers in the impacted areas will be notified by email of their new rates and effective date. Customers are typically notified 30 days prior to the effective date of the new rates.

    Global expansion and rising costs

Spotify is also expanding its global reach with over 250 million Premium subscribers as of mid-year 2025. It is also expanding its content with podcasts, audiobooks, and AI suggestions—all to stay ahead of the curve in the worldwide audio streaming market. Experts clarify that the price rises across the board since streaming services are increasing their prices to cover higher royalty payments and platform upgrades.
