It does not seem that Google can keep the Pixel 9 series under wraps anymore. If this started with early photos of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to the most recent from the NCC, it would be correct to admit that Google’s luck with secrecy has finally run thin. The NCC regulatory agency exposed photos of all four models: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the hotly debated Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

    Pixel 9 series model numbers

The Taiwan National Communications Commission (NCC) listed model numbers for all devices in the Pixel 9 series, listed below:

    • Pixel 9 (GUR25)
    • Pixel 9 Pro (GEC77)
    • Pixel 9 Pro XL (GZC4K)
    • Pixel 9 Pro Fold (GGH2X)

Internal photos from the NCC show the design of Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, giving us a look into what’s to come with Google’s latest flagship devices.

    Pixel 9 Pro Fold unveiled

Up until now, very few looks had been taken at the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but new photos today give a glimpse of its unique design. It appears Google also moved away from the design featured on the original Pixel Fold to a taller outer display, similar to that of the OnePlus Open. The new design houses a larger housing completely without wobble when laid flat and a taller, narrower inner display with reduced bezels.

Being the successor to the first-gen Fold, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold can now open up fully flat and provide a jittery-free user experience. This new design relocates the inner camera to a cutout in the top left, which improves the overall design aesthetic.

    Design upgrade

Certainly one of the interesting changes in the Pixel 9 series design would be the shifting of the inner selfie camera towards the corner of the screen. In that way, this change has ensured a much more aesthetic display and better overall usage. The new square camera setup and reduced bezels on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold hint more toward a polished and evolved design compared to the previous generation.

Pixel 9 series battery capacity and charging speed

The Pixel 9 series ranges from 4,558 mAh on the Pix2el 9 and Pixel 9 Pro to 4,942 mAh on the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Similar to these, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with a 4,560 mAh battery size; however, it charges faster, and the speed is yet to be confirmed.

Now, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will feature at least 35W charging support, which increases from the previous generation where the Pixel 8 Pro had a 30W charging capability.

    Radio support and accessories

While all Pixel 9 series devices carry the Thread certification, only the base Pixel 9 doesn’t support UWB. A new 45W USB-C charger with GW8L7 model number has also been revealed. It appears to be a bit more rounded compared to previous chargers. Whether Google bundles this charger with the Pixel 9 series isn’t clear.

    Launch date

The Pixel 9 series is very likely to launch on August 13, 2024. With this launch just a bit ahead, more details on Google’s new flagship devices are coming.
