vivo and iQOO have finally announced a significant software upgrade, introducing the eagerly awaited OriginOS 6 to the global market. This represents a huge departure from the company’s usual Funtouch OS, used by international customers for years, since the new software promises a richer, more feature-loaded experience than what the company has been providing globally.
OriginOS 6: A new era for vivo and iQOO devices
vivo has just announced OriginOS 6 for a debut date of October 10, 2025, at the vivo Developer Conference. Developed from the base of the latest Android 16, the new operating system arrives with the concept of a new “Comfort Engineering” design philosophy, which offers a more natural user experience.
Pre-release teasers indicate drastic lock screen revisions involving a transparent theme and increased customizability. Using real-time rendering technology, the software clock element automatically adjusts contrast depending on the level of lighting for a three-dimensional appearance with natural shadows and refraction of light. A color palette involving a transparent theme also includes soft drop shadows for blending lock screen images into the user interface.

Moving beyond Funtouch OS
vivo had a two-OS approach for years, keeping OriginOS for the domestic market, China, but offering Funtouch OS for the global markets. Funtouch OS offers a more stock-Android experience, but OriginOS stands out for a unique design language, detailed animations, further advanced/customization options like behavioral wallpapers and interactive widgets.
Global deployment of OriginOS demonstrates the willingness of the company to unify its software ecosystem and provide the same aesthetically distinct and feature-loaded experience Chinese users had enjoyed to other global users.
First devices to feature OriginOS 6
The vivo X300 series and iQOO 15 will be the first smartphones to ship with OriginOS 6 in China upon their launch in October 2025. These devices are also expected to carry OriginOS 6 for the global market during their international rollout later this year.
While vivo has not publicly revealed exact dates for a global launch, the OriginOS 6 preview program goes into registration starting from September 29, 2025, so major announcements seem imminent.
