PlayStation has officially announced the free games coming to PlayStation Plus for January, giving subscribers a mix of racing, adventure, and sandbox survival experiences. Starting January 6, all PS Plus members will be able to add Need for Speed Unbound, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper to their libraries. These titles will remain available to claim until Monday, February 2, as confirmed by Sony.
Need for Speed Unbound brings high-stakes street racing
Need for Speed Unbound is the latest mainline entry in EA’s iconic racing franchise. The game takes place in Lakeshore City, a fictional setting inspired by Chicago, and focuses heavily on illegal street racing and police pursuits.
As players compete in races, their “Heat” level increases, drawing more aggressive law enforcement responses. Evading the cops becomes just as important as winning races. Outside of events, players can customize vehicles, fine-tune performance, and take part in weekly qualifiers that build toward the ultimate competition known as The Grand. Both single-player and multiplayer modes are included.
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed returns to modern consoles
Originally released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii in 2010, Epic Mickey made its return in 2024 with Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a remastered version developed for modern platforms. Published by THQ Nordic, the remaster features upgraded visuals, smoother controls, and gameplay refinements.
The story follows Mickey Mouse after he is pulled into the Wasteland, a forgotten world filled with discarded Disney characters and unused concepts. A key narrative focus is Mickey’s encounter with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s earlier creation. The game explores their strained relationship as Mickey attempts to repair the Wasteland and find a way back home.
Core Keeper offers a relaxed yet deep survival experience
Core Keeper takes a different approach, blending survival mechanics with a cozy, exploration-focused design. Set inside a massive underground cavern, the game encourages players to dig, explore, and uncover hidden relics and long-buried secrets.
Players gather resources to craft tools, build bases, and gradually venture deeper into the cavern. Along the way, they can farm crops, raise animals, fish, cook meals, and upgrade skills. Progression eventually leads to battles against powerful Titans, making preparation and long-term planning essential.
Last chance to claim December’s free games
Sony also reminded subscribers that December’s PlayStation Plus titles will go out soon. Players have until Monday, January 5, to claim Lego Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, Synduality Echo of Ada, and Neon White.
January’s PlayStation Plus lineup offers a well-balanced selection that caters to a wide range of players, from competitive racing fans to those who prefer slower, exploration-driven gameplay. With all three games available to claim from January 6 through February 2, subscribers can add them to their libraries and enjoy them anytime while their PlayStation Plus membership remains active.
