TECNO unveils PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold concept: The world’s thinnest tri-fold phone

TECNO has just taken a bold step forward in the foldable phone race with the unveiling of its latest concept device, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold. This isn’t just another foldable — it’s a tri-fold smartphone with a unique twist: a dual inward-folding design that promises better protection, portability, and performance.

At first glance, it looks like something out of the future. But TECNO’s concept shows that this future might not be too far off.

A new take on tri-fold tech

Most tri-fold phones on the market (or in concept stages) follow a familiar layout — with at least part of the display exposed when folded. TECNO flips that idea on its head. The PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold folds the display inward twice, keeping the flexible screen tucked safely away when the device is closed.

And when fully opened? You’re looking at a massive 9.94-inch interior display, turning the phone into more of a tablet experience — perfect for multitasking, streaming, or just enjoying extra screen space. For everyday use, there’s a separate cover screen so you don’t always have to unfold it to check messages or make calls.

    Two hinges, one seamless fold

What really makes this design work is TECNO’s custom dual-hinge mechanism. One hinge uses a water drop-style fold for smoother curvature, while the second hinge folds over the remaining section. Together, they allow the phone to fold neatly without leaving awkward gaps.

There’s even a locking system built in to keep everything secure when closed. The engineering behind it is no small feat — and it’s a clear sign that TECNO is serious about pushing foldables to the next level.

    Hovering mode adds flexibility

A particularly clever feature is the hovering mode, thanks to a dual-camera setup integrated right into the main hinge. This allows the device to stay open at different angles, kind of like a mini laptop. It’s perfect for watching videos hands-free, taking calls, or even shooting content at just the right tilt.

    Slimmer than ever

Despite its complex structure, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold is astonishingly slim. When folded, it measures just 11.49mm, and when opened, it thins out to a mere 3.49mm — making it the slimmest tri-fold design we’ve seen so far.

TECNO pulled this off by using cutting-edge materials like 2000 MPa high-strength steel in the hinges and a 0.3mm Titan Fiber rear panel, which adds strength without bulk.

    Power and performance on board

While TECNO hasn’t revealed all the details yet, the concept model does include some notable hardware:

    • A triple-camera system
    • A flagship-grade chipset
    • A battery larger than 5000mAh, which is impressive for a foldable this thin

These specs suggest the Ultimate G Fold isn’t just about design — it’s aiming to deliver a full premium experience.

    Building on previous innovation

This isn’t TECNO’s first foray into foldables. The company previously showcased the PHANTOM ULTIMATE 2 at MWC 2025, which introduced some of the ideas we’re now seeing refined in this new concept.

According to TECNO, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold will officially debut at MWC 2026, giving the public and press a chance to go hands-on with what could be a major step forward for foldable smartphones.

    Still more to come

Some details — like the size of the cover screen, total weight, and the exact chipset — haven’t been revealed yet. But if what we’ve seen so far is any indication, TECNO is gearing up to be a serious competitor in the next wave of foldables.

As more manufacturers experiment with form factors and folding tech, innovations like the Ultimate G Fold are helping define what the future of smartphones could actually look like.
